JustWantCoffee

If you have been a loyal customer to Nylon, it shouldn't be hard to notice this new café at a corner of Everton Park slowly taking shape since late last year. After much anticipation, curtains had finally come down to this coffee joint from our crossway neighbour, Johor Bahru to be exact.

Just Want Kopi

PNG by woodneck - $5.50

Besides the regular milk-based coffee, the house also offers four different single origin brews, prepared by your choice method, being it siphon, woodneck or V60.

Caramel Mocha - $4.50

Mille Crêpes - $5.50

Despite its name, the café's offerings are not just limited to its coffee. Indeed, one of highly sought-after items here is their Mille Crêpe ($5.50).

Memory has it that the version I had at Nadeje in Malacca fared better in terms of texture and creaminess. But this is probably the next best thing you can get without having to stamp on the passport. And besides, it made a perfect mate to my PNG brew.

Furry customer

A furry customer was spotted at the alfresco seating.

This place is a great place to sit down for some serious coffee with a slice of cake or two to go along. A perfect spot for people-watching too.

Cash payment only.

Rabbit Carrot Gun

Or as they say, ‘Manducare Bibere Somno.’

Down the rabbit hole we went to this brand new café for a relaxing afternoon in the Joo Chiat area last week.

Brimming with an old school charm, the interior was a well-restored shophouse with a touch of modernity. No aircon was needed in the house, as the open-concept space invited a constant stream of breeze that made every corner incredibly cosy, so cosy that my companion went fishing several times sitting on their comfy chair.

Chamomile tea - $4.50

Hot Chocolate - $6

The Hot Chocolate Nazi was very pleased with his favourite drink here, which came served in a bowl. Well, not really, but close enough.

Quiche of the Day - $21

'Proper' Prawn Cocktail and Chicken Liver & Madeira Parfait were not available as the kitchen was having its break. We got a promising-looking something off the counter display. Mother Rabbit’s Quiche of the Day they called it.

We also caught a glimpse of the English chef working in the kitchen. Sure the café menu has much to offer that it certainly calls for a come-back-soon.

Cups N Canvas

Cups n Canvas

If you have been with this blog for some time, it shouldn't be hard to tell that I have an eye for visual arts. So imagine my delight when I got to know Cups N Canvas through a friend of mine.

Located along Selegie Road, this retro chic café blends the art elements pretty well into its earthly-toned interior, complete with a strong but cosy oriental touch. While the entire cafe is open to the public during normal hours, its art studio half will be closed when there is painting class going on.

The plaque

The food menu carries a wide variety of offerings ranging from small nibbles and sandwiches, to pasta and all-day brekkie items. Flip over to the drink menu, among the usual suspects you spot a number of interesting-sounding names such as the Sweet potato latte ($4.80) and Sticky date shake ($6.80).

Hot Chocolate Canvas - $5.30

Following doctor's advice to tame my caffeine cravings, I decided to have this Hot Chocolate Canvas ($5) (which eventually didn't help my coughing either). Oh dear, the innocent looking thingy was easily one of the meanest hot choco I had. The cup was thick and well-frothed. The chocolate taste was very rich, perfectly balanced by just the right dose of milk.

Olive Room - $12.9

Olive Room ($12.9) came as a natural choice of main for mushroom fan like me.

Fish N Chips - $12.90

One of the signature dishes here is undeniably their Fish N Chips ($12.90). The batter was nicely done without being too touch, while retaining the original sweet taste of the dory. Good to eat it alone or pair it with their very delectable homemade tartar sauce.

This one is definitely worth trying (in spite of the sore throat I had to suffer the following days).

With the current weekday lunch promotion (1130am to 0230pm), you get to enjoy this for just $9.9, with one complimentary drink of your choice.

Peach-Lychee - $5.80

Peach-Lychee Tea

Beef N Burger - $10.90

Also on the offer list is their Beef N Burger ($10.90) which is going at just $7.90 during lunch. Of course, your drink will be on the house as well.

Breakfast Canvas - 16.90

Breakfast Canvas (16.90)

French Apple Cake - $6.50

Over at the counter display were a good selection of home-baked sweets. Enjoyed a slice of French Vanilla Apple($6.5) with a cup of Gryphon's Pearl of the Orient to go along.

Studio

There is also a table or two in the al fresco area for those who long for some privacy. Needless to say, the space is also littered with exhibition pieces.

"Step out"

With so many tantalizing treats, a budget-friendly menu and great ambience, this place totally deserves a place on my list of favourite cafés (Mind you, I have fewer than 5 on the list from the 80 tags thus far). Visit soon before it gets too crowded.
